The Milwaukee Brewers made a roster adjustment Thursday ahead of their weekend series with the Cincinnati Reds, sending right-hander Brandon Sproat back to Triple-A Nashville after a difficult ninth inning the night before.

In his place, the club recalled 29-year-old right-hander Garrett Stallings from the same affiliate, via Brewers insider Todd Rosiak.

Stallings first reached the majors with Milwaukee earlier this season and has been effective in limited work. Across four appearances he has thrown eight scoreless innings, posting a 0.75 WHIP and nine strikeouts.

At Nashville this year, he has a 3.78 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 76 strikeouts in 81 innings over 25 games.

The University of Tennessee product was originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the fifth round of the 2019 draft.

He later moved to the Baltimore Orioles in a December 2020 deal that sent shortstop Jose Iglesias the other way, then joined the Brewers organization in May 2024 when Baltimore traded him for right-handers Thyago Vieira and Aneuris Rodriguez.

Over more than 600 minor-league innings, his career ERA sits at 4.86.

The move comes as Milwaukee rides strong momentum. The Brewers just completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs at American Family Field and sit at 91-56, first in the National League Central with a 10-game lead over the Cubs and the best record in baseball.

That standing would give them home-field advantage throughout the postseason if the regular season ended today.

The three-game set with Cincinnati begins Friday at 6:45 p.m. CDT in Milwaukee and will be available on Apple TV.

Stallings gives the Brewers another familiar arm in the bullpen as they look to stay sharp against a division opponent while protecting their commanding lead in the standings.

How much work he receives this weekend will depend on game situations and the performance of the rest of the staff, but his recent scoreless stretch in the majors offers a useful option for manager Pat Murphy.
