Milwaukee Brewers star pitcher Jacob Misiorowski punched his name into the record book Tuesday night, becoming the first pitcher in major league history to throw more than 1,000 pitches of 100 mph or faster in a single season.
The 24-year-old Milwaukee Brewers right-hander reached the milestone against the Chicago Cubs at American Family Field. He worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and one run with two walks and nine strikeouts before handing the game to the bullpen with the score tied 1-1.
His season ERA dropped to 1.95 after the outing. Misiorowski has been the clear National League Cy Young favorite for months, and nights like this only strengthen the case.
ESPN’s Jesse Rogers noted the historic mark on social media: “Jacob Misiorowski has now thrown over 1,000 triple digit fastballs in a season for the first time in MLB history. The next most triple digit pitches in a season in the pitch tracking era (2008) was Jordan Hicks in 2018 with 659.”
The previous high in the Statcast era belonged to Hicks, then a St. Louis Cardinals reliever known for lighting up radar guns. Misiorowski has blown past that total while working as a starter, which makes the feat even more unusual.
Another account tracking the numbers posted Misiorowski’s league-leading ranks: 161.1 innings, 236 strikeouts (first), 1.95 ERA (first), 0.80 WHIP (first), .156 batting average against (first), and 1,010 pitches of 100 mph or more, the most in a season by any pitcher in the pitch-tracking era.
A third observer added more context: “Jacob Misiorowski is up to 1,010 pitches at 100.0+ mph this season. Next most by a pitcher in a season under tracking (2008): 673, 2018 Jordan Hicks. That 673 is also the next most by a TEAM other than this year’s Brewers, entering tonight — Hicks’ Cardinals that yr.”
Misiorowski, nicknamed “The Miz,” debuted last June and immediately showed the kind of raw velocity that scouts dreamed about when the Brewers drafted him in the second round out of Crowder College in 2022. He is listed at 6-foot-7 and still only 24.
Last week at Wrigley Field he had one of his worst starts of the year, allowing five runs in four innings. He looked sharper this time, pounding the zone and missing bats with both the heater and his breaking stuff.
The Brewers entered the night with the best record in baseball and a comfortable lead in the NL Central. A series win over the Cubs would only widen that gap as September wears on.
Misiorowski already owns several velocity records. Earlier this season he threw a 105.5 mph fastball, the hardest pitch by a starter since tracking began in 2008. He has also set the single-game mark for 100-plus mph pitches.
Opponents are hitting just .156 against him this year. That kind of dominance from a second-year pitcher is rare.
The Brewers have leaned on him as their ace all season. He has thrown more innings than he did in 2025, when he split time between the majors and Triple-A after a midseason call-up.
Manager Pat Murphy has praised his ability to bounce back from rough outings. Tuesday’s start looked like a response to the previous week’s clunker in Chicago.
Fans at American Family Field roared every time the scoreboard flashed another triple-digit reading. By the time Misiorowski left the mound, the record was his.
The rest of the rotation and a strong bullpen give Milwaukee one of the more complete pitching staffs in the league heading into the final weeks.
Whether he finishes the year with the Cy Young or not, the 1,000-pitch milestone is a number that will stand for a while. No starter had ever come close.
Misiorowski still has starts left. The total could climb higher before October.
