The Jacksonville Jaguars terminated the contract of former University of Kentucky defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna on Thursday, ending a brief stint that began when the 27-year-old signed during organized team activities in June.
The move came as Jacksonville added offensive lineman Timothy McKay to address depth issues along the offensive line ahead of the regular season. Bohanna, listed at 6-foot-4 and 355 pounds, had been competing for a reserve interior defensive line role.
For Big Blue Nation, the news marks another chapter in the NFL journey of a player who anchored the middle of Kentucky’s defense for four seasons.
Bohanna arrived in Lexington from Cordova High School in Tennessee and developed into a reliable nose tackle from 2017 to 2020. He appeared in 45 games with 31 starts, finishing his college career with 59 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks, four passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
As a senior in 2020, he served as a team captain and earned second-team All-SEC honors while helping a defense that sent several players to the NFL. The massive interior presence nicknamed “Big Bo” was a space-eater who occupied blockers and allowed linebackers to flow freely.
The Dallas Cowboys selected him in the sixth round (192nd overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. Bohanna appeared in 27 games over two seasons in Dallas, including nine starts in 2022.
He later spent time with the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans in 2023, the Seattle Seahawks in 2024-25, and a short stop with the Green Bay Packers late last season. Across 40 NFL games and 13 starts, he has recorded 44 tackles.
His signing with Jacksonville in June offered a reunion of sorts.
Former Kentucky teammates Josh Hines-Allen and running back Chris Rodriguez were already on the roster, and head coach Liam Coen previously served as the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator. Those connections gave the move extra meaning for Kentucky fans following their alumni.
Roster cuts are common this time of year as teams trim from 90 players toward the 53-man limit. Bohanna’s release does not close the door on his career.
Journeyman interior linemen often find new homes quickly, and his size and experience remain assets for teams needing run-stopping depth.
Kentucky supporters have watched Bohanna represent the program since he left campus. From his early contributions as a true freshman through his leadership as a senior captain, he embodied the physical, lunch-pail style that defined those Wildcat defenses.
Whatever comes next, his time in Lexington remains a foundation of a professional career now spanning six seasons.
