The Atlanta Braves enter Thursday’s matchup against the Chicago White Sox looking for a quick reset after a disappointing sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Twins.

Rather than stand pat, the club has made a noticeable adjustment to its batting order, moving Ozzie Albies from the sixth spot he occupied in the most recent game to the cleanup position.

The decision is not difficult to understand given how Albies has performed of late. In that last contest against Minnesota he doubled and drove in a run.

He has also recorded a hit in each of his previous three games, a modest but encouraging stretch that suggests the veteran second baseman is beginning to find more consistent contact.

Sliding him up two spots puts him in a position where he can more regularly come to the plate with runners on base and, in theory, produce more run-producing opportunities for a lineup that could use them.

The rest of the Thursday lineup reflects a familiar mix of power and athleticism. Ronald Acuña Jr. will lead off from right field, followed by Drake Baldwin at designated hitter and Matt Olson at first base.

Albies then occupies the fourth hole at second. Lane Thomas is in left field, Michael Harris II in center, Mauricio Dubón at shortstop, Austin Riley at third, and Sean Murphy catching.

Albies has been a steady presence for Atlanta throughout the 2026 season. In 127 games he has already compiled 20 home runs and 65 RBIs while hitting .251.

Those numbers were good enough to earn him a fourth career All-Star selection, a reminder of the two-way value he has provided as both a switch-hitter and a reliable defender. The Braves have leaned on that consistency even as the team has dealt with the usual midseason fluctuations.

Whether the move to cleanup immediately translates into extra production remains to be seen, but it is a logical attempt to capitalize on recent momentum.

After dropping three straight to the Twins, Atlanta needs contributions from its established players if it hopes to regain traction. Thursday’s game against the White Sox offers an early test of whether the new batting-order alignment can help generate that spark.

Albies, now hitting in a more prominent spot, will be one of the key figures to watch as the Braves try to get back on track.
