The Toronto Blue Jays moved forward with a minor league promotion Wednesday as they prepared for the second game of their series against the Tampa Bay Rays, elevating a young catcher while highlighting the recent contributions of one of their key major league players.

Edward Duran, a 22-year-old catcher in the organization, has been assigned to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the club’s Double-A affiliate. The move comes from the Vancouver Canadians, according to the MiLB Transactions Log, which stated: “C Edward Duran assigned to New Hampshire Fisher Cats from Vancouver Canadians.”

Duran stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 210 pounds. He joined the Blue Jays organization after being acquired from the Miami Marlins in 2022. The promotion marks another step in his development as he continues to work his way through the system.

The young catcher wasted little time making an impression at the Double-A level. In his first game with New Hampshire, he went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a stolen base and a walk. Those numbers offered an early glimpse of the production the organization hopes to see more of as he settles into the higher level.

Before the call-up, Duran spent the bulk of the 2026 season with the Vancouver Canadians. Over 44 games there, he collected 39 hits, including seven doubles, two triples and two home runs. He also drove in 18 runs while posting a .231 batting average.

The promotion arrives as the Blue Jays continue their series against the Rays. Toronto opened the set with a decisive 10-5 win Tuesday night. The offense received significant contributions from Alejandro Kirk and Ernie Clement, who combined for five runs and six hits in the victory.

Kirk stood out in particular during that contest. He finished with three hits, including a home run, and three RBI. His performance earned him recognition as the Performer of the Game for the evening.

Before Wednesday’s contest, the Blue Jays shared a brief update on Kirk’s recent form. The team’s social media account noted: “Captain Kirk is hitting .392 in August.”

The catcher’s hot stretch has provided a boost for a Blue Jays club looking to maintain momentum through the remainder of the month. Kirk’s ability to drive the ball and get on base has been a consistent factor in recent outings.

Looking ahead, Toronto faces a challenging stretch of games that will test the depth of the roster. Upcoming matchups against the New York Yankees, Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners leave little room for error if the Blue Jays hope to stay in contention for a playoff spot.

Manager John Schneider and the coaching staff will continue evaluating options at every level of the organization as the season progresses. Moves like Duran’s promotion reflect an ongoing effort to develop talent and keep the pipeline active.

The Blue Jays have relied on contributions from both established major leaguers and emerging prospects this year. Kirk’s strong August numbers illustrate the kind of production needed down the stretch, while Duran’s advancement signals continued investment in the farm system.

As the series with Tampa Bay continues, the focus remains on consistent play from the current roster. At the same time, the organization is positioning younger players for greater opportunities in the weeks and months ahead.

Duran’s early success at Double-A will be monitored closely. If he maintains the form shown in his debut, he could continue climbing the organizational ladder. For now, the promotion places him in a more competitive environment where further growth is expected.

The combination of on-field results from players like Kirk and developmental steps for prospects such as Duran underscores the dual approach the Blue Jays are taking. Success in the present and preparation for the future both remain priorities as August unfolds.
