Skip Bayless wasted little time weighing in after the Dallas Cowboys agreed to terms with veteran edge rusher Von Miller. In a tweet posted shortly after the news broke, the longtime Cowboys supporter and outspoken analyst declared his full approval of the signing.

“YES, SIR! Good move for the Cowboys to sign Von Miller,” Bayless posted on X. “He’s 37 but had 9 sacks for Washington and he’s from DeSoto/A&M and will provide championship wisdom/stature. We had him on Gridiron at the SBowl. Fun to be around. Welcome home, Von.”

Bayless’ reaction captures both the emotional pull of the move and its practical upside for a Dallas defense still searching for consistent pressure off the edge.

Miller, a DeSoto native and Texas A&M product, is returning home after a solid 2025 season with the Washington Commanders in which he recorded nine sacks while playing a limited snap count.

The eight-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl 50 MVP enters his 15th NFL season as the league’s active career sacks leader with 138.5. That production, even at age 37, matters for a Cowboys team that ranked near the bottom of the league in sacks a year ago and has spent the offseason rebuilding its pass-rush group.

Dallas has already added Rashan Gary via trade and drafted Malachi Lawrence in the first round. Miller gives the unit proven depth and a different look in the rotation alongside Donovan Ezeiruaku and others.

He does not need to be an every-down player. His ability to generate pressure in shorter bursts, force offenses into uncomfortable situations, and mentor younger rushers adds value that pure athleticism alone cannot replace.

Beyond the numbers, Miller brings two Super Bowl rings and the kind of championship experience Dallas has lacked in recent postseasons.

Bayless correctly highlighted the “championship wisdom/stature” Miller provides. For a roster that features high expectations around Dak Prescott and a revamped defense under Christian Parker, having a future Hall of Famer who has won at the highest level can steady a group still learning how to close out games.

The local angle only strengthens the fit. Miller has openly expressed interest in playing for the Cowboys, and the short commute from DeSoto to The Star removes one of the usual distractions of free agency.

For a franchise that thrives on star power and narrative, bringing home a decorated Texas product creates positive energy at a time when the team is trying to end a playoff drought.

At roughly 400 words, the signing is not a panacea. Age and recent injury history mean Miller’s role must be managed carefully. Yet the combination of remaining production, leadership, and hometown motivation makes it a low-risk, high-character addition that aligns with what Dallas needs right now.

Bayless called it a good move. The tape and the résumé suggest he is right.
