The Miami Marlins placed first baseman/outfielder Kyle Stowers on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left hamstring strain, retroactive to Aug. 10.

The move comes after Stowers exited Sunday’s 12-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels with what the team initially described as left hamstring discomfort.

Stowers left the game in the fifth inning after hitting a two-run single. He grimaced and limped while rounding first base, holding the back of his left leg, and was replaced by pinch-runner Leo Jiménez. The injury marked an abrupt end to an otherwise productive afternoon that also included a triple.

This is the second time Stowers has dealt with a hamstring issue in 2026. He opened the season on the 10-day IL with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain suffered late in spring training and did not make his season debut until April 19 following a rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville.

The 28-year-old has appeared in 94 games this year, batting .242/.327/.462 with 16 home runs and 52 RBIs. After a slow start, he heated up considerably, posting 13 homers, an .867 OPS and 41 RBIs in 57 games since June 1.

He had settled in as the club’s primary first baseman since mid-June, a move that helped keep other bats in the lineup while managing his workload.

In a corresponding roster move, the Marlins recalled infielder Graham Pauley from Triple-A Jacksonville.

With primary backup Liam Hicks traded away at the deadline, options at first base in Stowers’ absence include Pauley, Griffin Conine and Leo Jiménez.

Stowers has said the latest injury feels similar to the one that cost him the start of the season. His earlier recovery took roughly three to four weeks.

If the timeline is comparable, he could return in early September, potentially in time for the stretch run. The Marlins entered Tuesday sitting near .500 and a few games out of a National League wild-card spot.

Stowers enjoyed a breakout 2025 campaign that earned him All-Star honors, finishing with 25 home runs and a .912 OPS in 117 games before an oblique injury cut his season short.

The hope in Miami is that this latest setback proves temporary and that the left-handed bat returns healthy for the final weeks of the schedule.
