The NFL offseason is rapidly winding down, and with training camps just a couple of weeks away, some intriguing names remain on the open market for the San Francisco 49ers.
Chief among them is dynamic wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who is currently weighing his options for the upcoming season.
After spending the first six years of his career as a focal point for the 49ers, Samuel spent the last season with the Washington Commanders, where he managed 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns despite a revolving door at quarterback.
Now, a return to the Bay Area could be on the horizon, fueled in part by some playful lobbying from his former teammates.
Samuel recently posted a workout video on Instagram with the caption, “Let The Chips Fall Where They May.” It did not take long for the comments section to light up with messages from familiar faces in San Francisco.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk chimed in first, writing, “I have a guest house with your name on it.” Not to be outdone, tight end George Kittle followed up about a day later, writing, “I also have a guest house labeled ‘Deebo’s second home.’”
The social media banter has naturally ignited speculation about a potential reunion.
Bringing Samuel back on a team-friendly deal is a realistic possibility for the 49ers, though it comes with questions about how he would fit into their current roster puzzle—especially as the front office continues to navigate the ongoing situation with Brandon Aiyuk.
During his original six-year run in San Francisco, Samuel was an instrumental piece of the offense, helping guide the franchise to three Super Bowl appearances.
His versatility was his trademark, racking up 334 catches for 4,792 yards and 22 touchdowns through the air, while adding 1,143 yards and another 20 scores on the ground across 81 games.
As the 49ers prepare for the upcoming season, their wide receiver depth chart features names like Mike Evans, Ricky Pearsall, Christian Kirk, Demarcus Robinson, and De’Zhaun Stribling.
Should the front office decide to act on the locker room’s recruiting efforts, Samuel could slide right back into a familiar environment, potentially operating as a high-end slot receiver alongside Evans and Pearsall.
