The Miami Hurricanes stand on the brink of a potential sixth national title, needing just two more victories to claim the crown in the expanded College Football Playoff.

Guiding the team through this impressive postseason push has been senior quarterback Carson Beck, who orchestrated upsets over No. 7 Texas A&M in the opening round and defending champion Ohio State in the quarterfinals.

With Beck’s college career winding down, head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff are already planning ahead to secure a seamless transition at the game’s most critical position.

The program has shown interest in multiple elite signal-callers available via the transfer portal, such as Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt and Florida’s DJ Lagway, yet moved swiftly on another standout option.

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Hurricanes extended an NIL proposal to Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby mere hours after the portal window opened on Friday.

“According to a source, Miami has made an offer to Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby, who’s considered by some to be the top QB in the portal,” Jackson wrote.

“Sorsby, a dual-threat quarterback, has been considering UM, LSU and Texas Tech and plans to visit LSU’s and Texas Tech’s campus in the coming days. But Miami has not been ruled out. LSU and Texas Tech have among the highest NIL budgets in the country, and UM has a big one, as well.”

Jackson further noted that offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson holds backup quarterback Emory Williams in high esteem, though the staff prefers to bring in an experienced, high-caliber veteran to lead a contending squad in 2026. Industry insider Chris Karpmann from 247Sports shared on Friday that Sorsby commands significant financial expectations.“

“Industry buzz is that Cincinnati transfer Brendan Sorsby, the No. 1 QB in the 247Sports portal rankings, could earn $5m+ this year at his new school,” he wrote. “To put that into perspective, that’s more money than ASU’s entire roster was paid in NIL during its Big 12 title season.”

ESPN’s Pete Thamel confirmed that Sorsby has scheduled campus trips to LSU and Texas Tech in the near future.

Standing at 6-foot-3 as a junior, Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns this past season, complemented by 580 rushing yards and nine scores on the ground.

Across his time at Indiana and Cincinnati spanning four years, he has accumulated 7,208 passing yards with 60 touchdowns, alongside 1,305 rushing yards and 22 more touchdowns.

As the Hurricanes continue their championship pursuit, securing a proven dual-threat like Sorsby could ensure sustained competitiveness under Cristobal’s direction.

Landing such a productive arm would provide immediate stability and explosive potential for an offense aiming to build on recent successes in the years ahead.
