As the Detroit Lions sit at 6-4 and trail both the Chicago Bears (7-3) and Green Bay Packers (6-3-1) in the NFC North, there’s still plenty of reason for optimism in the Motor City. A favorable matchup against the struggling New York Giants this Sunday, followed by a Thanksgiving showdown with Green Bay, gives Detroit a clear opportunity to make up ground in the division race.
The Lions entered their Week 8 bye riding a hot streak, having won five of their previous six contests. But the weeks since have been rockier, with losses to Minnesota and Philadelphia dropping them into third place in a suddenly competitive division.
After reaching the NFC Championship and securing the conference’s No. 1 seed a year ago, expectations remain sky-high, and the next two games offer a chance to get back on track.
Amid the ups and downs, one constant has been the dominant play of star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson.
The fourth-year pro continues to terrorize quarterbacks at an extraordinary rate. Through ten games, Hutchinson is tied for 10th in the league with 7.5 sacks and has racked up 21 total tackles. On Wednesday, the Lions’ official account on X highlighted just how rare his production has been over the course of his young career,

That’s it. Just Hutchinson and Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons have achieved that combination of pressure, sacks, and tackles for loss in every season since entering the league — an exclusive club that underscores Hutchinson’s place among the very best pass rushers in football.
Selected second overall out of Michigan in the 2022 NFL Draft, Hutchinson has wasted no time establishing himself as an elite talent. He posted 9.5 sacks as a rookie, jumped to a career-best 11.5 in 2023, and even in an injury-shortened 2024 campaign (when he played only five games), still managed 7.5 sacks.
The consistency across four seasons is remarkable and a big reason why Detroit’s defense remains one of the league’s most feared units when healthy.
First up for the Lions is a Giants team that limps into Ford Field with a 2-9 record. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday on Fox, with a national audience watching to see if Detroit can start its late-season push.
If Hutchinson keeps playing at this historic level, the rest of the NFC North — and the entire league — will have to take notice.
