The Houston Rockets have an incredible surplus of young talent and could be closer to contention than you think, so could they pull off a blockbuster trade for Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant?

The Suns looked like NBA championship contenders on paper last season, featuring a star-studded trio of Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. However, they won just 49 games and were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs.

Phoenix looks very similar heading into the 2024-25 campaign, which leads some to believe that the Suns may choose to blow up their roster if things continue to go south.

If that ends up being the case, the Rockets could represent an interesting destination for Durant, and Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes has named the 14-time All-Star one of their top potential trade targets.

If there is any team that can blow Phoenix away with an offer for Durant, it’s Houston.

The Rockets boast a stable of impressive young players that includes Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., Jalen Green, Cam Whitmore, Amen Thompson, Tari Eason and rookie Reed Sheppard.

Combined with all of the draft capital Houston possesses, that is more than enough to put together an incredibly competitive offer for Durant, who was rumored to be frustrated with the Suns late last season.

Keep in mind, the Rockets managed to win 41 games with that roster in 2023-24 (they were particularly hot in the second half of the season), so they should absolutely contend for a playoff spot this year, even in the rugged Western Conference.

Throwing Kevin Durant into the mix would make Houston that much more formidable and could have the Houston Rockets crashing the title contention party much sooner than anticipated.
