San Francisco 49ers Have Best Ranked Roster in NFL

Heading into training camp, the biggest storyline involving the San Francisco 49ers is the status of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. He has yet to receive his long-term extension and has been away from the team as a result.

It will be interesting to see what kind of offer, if any, that the 49ers extend to Aiyuk. They are much better with him in the lineup, but certainly aren’t lacking for talent should he not report or be traded away.

Over at ESPN, multiple NFL contributors put together a power ranking of every team’s roster in the league. Coming in at No. 1 was the San Francisco 49ers, who have firepower on both sides of the ball.

A big reason that they are ranked so highly, in the opinion of analyst Mike Clay, is their offensive skill positions. There isn’t a better foursome in the NFL than wide receivers Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel, running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle.

Those positions have some strong depth as well. At wide receiver, the team has Jauan Jennings and used a first-round pick on Ricky Pearsall. Elijah Mitchell is a strong No. 2 running back, veteran Logan Thomas behind Kittle at tight end and the team has the ever versatile Kyle Juszczyk.

If there is one weakness on this team, in the opinion of Clay, it is the offensive line. It is a bit nit-picky seleting that unit, as it is anchored by star left tackle Trent Williams. There is a ton of continuity with the unit, but only two player graded out well per PFF in 2023. Will others step up this time?

On defense, their pass rush will be the X-factor. The San Francisco 49ers have a superstar in Nick Bosa, but haven’t been able to find a complement for him. Leonard Floyd, Maliek Collins and Yetur Gross-Matos will look to fill that void in place of Chase Young, Arik Armstead and Clelin Ferrell.
