For years, Klay Thompson has been a fixture in the Golden State Warriors lineup. But, throughout the 2023-24 season, it felt as if the partnership between the two sides would be coming to an end sooner rather than later.
Klay Thompson has shown a lot of fortitude and toughness coming back from the injuries he suffered. He missed two full seasons after tearing his ACL and rupturing his Achilles. Returning from one severe injury is hard enough, but two back-to-back has been challenging.
This past season, he saw his role with the team change, as head coach Steve Kerr moved him to the second unit. He was no longer a fixture in the closing lineup of games either, making it feel as if a divorce was coming.
Only a few weeks away from NBA Free Agency getting underway, the possibility of Klay Thompson leaving the Golden State Warriors feels as if it is growing. As shared by NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the veteran sharpshooter will leave no stone unturned this offseason.
“Klay Thompson, I’m told, is open to all external options in free agency coming up,” Charania said during a recent segment on Run It Back on FanDuel TV.

One of the teams that Klay Thompson has been linked to heavily is the Orlando Magic. Looking to continue their ascension in the Eastern Conference, even this version of Thompson would be a huge upgrade for the team in the 3-point shooting department.
His championship experience would also be huge for a roster whose playoff experience is mostly tied to their first-round exit at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers a few weeks ago. A team on the rise, the Magic also have ample cap space to spend, making a lucrative long-term contract a possibility.
It will be interesting to see how things play out for Klay Thompson. Adding to the drama, he unfollowed all things connected to the Warriors and deleted his Golden State content.
It is hard to envision him playing for another franchise. But, the Big 3 era of the Golden State Warriors alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green could very well be coming to an end.
