With the New York Jets hoping for a bounce-back season, wide receiver Allen Lazard is one player to keep an eye on as a cut candidate this offseason.

It was a tough 2023 season for the New York Jets. After losing Aaron Rodgers for the season in Week 1, the team was unable to perform up to their preseason expectations without their starting quarterback.

This offseason, the Jets have done a nice job fixing some holes that became apparent last season with Rodgers out, and expectations are once again high. With the Jets currently in OTA’s, the team will have to think about what the roster might look like next season.

Recently, Bleacher Report spoke about the best player on each team who could be cut. For the Jets, they chose Allen Lazard. Here’s what they had to say.

New York Jets: Allen Lazard, WR

Between the influence Aaron Rodgers wields and negligible financial savings, I would not consider Allen Lazard a likely cut. Besides, maybe a healthy season from Rodgers will spark his former Green Bay Packers teammate. Lazard, nevertheless, had a ghastly 23 catches last year and might only be the Jets’ fourth receiver in 2024.

For the reasons stated above, Allen Lazard being cut is highly unlikely, but his performance in 2023 certainly made it deserving for him to be cut. Lazard was a big signing for the Jets in 2023, as he essentially came over to New York with Rodgers.

While quarterback play was a massive issue for the Jets last season, Lazard did his quarterbacks no favors.

Hopefully, for the Jets, Lazard will be able to bounce back from an awful season with Rodgers back under center. The two were able to play very well together in Green Bay, and Lazard will be a player to watch this offseason. If he has a bad summer, the New York Jets very well might decide to cut ties with him.
