As we get closer to the MLB Trade Deadline, ESPN recently released their early preview. What kind of New York Yankees rumors could pop up until then?
It has been an awesome start to the season for the New York Yankees, as the team is firing on all cylinders as we enter the early part of June. After a tough 2023 season, the Yankees look like title contenders once again.
One of the big reasons why the Yankees have been so successful this season is because of the duo of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. Even though Judge got off to a slow start, he had a fantastic May and the Yankees’ offense is humming now.
While the Yankees are playing well, they are certainly still going to be buyers at the trade deadline with title aspirations. Recently, Jeff Passan released his early preview for the trade deadline. Here’s what he had to say about the Yankees rumors swirling and their plans.
When you’ve got Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, what more do you need? Well, another high-octane bullpen arm would be nice. Maybe a corner-infield bat? (McMahon would be a perfect fit, actually.) Otherwise, the Yankees look good, and that’s before they get the equivalent of a mega trade: the return of reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole.
For the Yankees, getting Gerrit Cole back is scary to think about with how well they are playing without the reigning Cy Young award winner. As Passan mentions, his return will essentially be the Yankees pulling off a massive trade.
What seems most likely for the Yankees will be adding another arm for their bullpen. In the playoffs, the bullpen generally gets worked a lot, as we have seen quick hooks from Aaron Boone in the past.
Yankees rumors are sure to pick up in the coming weeks. Even if the Yankees stand pat, they will still be a title contender with their current roster. But, expect Brian Cashman to be aggressive in what truly feels like a year they can win it all.
