The Jacksonville Jaguars are looking to bounce back in the 2024 season after a disappointing 2023. They could not build on their 2022 AFC South division championship, as injuries became too much to overcome.
After starting the season 8-3, they went on to lose five out of their last six games. That dropped them into a tie for second place with the Indianapolis Colts, while the Houston Texans shockingly took home the division title.
One of the areas the team has sought to upgrade this offseason is cornerback. The Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran Ronald Darby after releasing Darious Williams. They used third and fifth-round picks on Jarrian Jones and Deantre Prince as well.
However, in the opinion of ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, the team could still use help opposite of Tyson Campbell. That is why he has pitched an interesting trade idea between the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints centered around star cornerback Marshon Lattimore.
“Sending a fourth-rounder to the Saints would clear up a financial and positional logjam for New Orleans and land an immediate plug-and-play starter at a position of need for Jacksonville,” Barnwell wrote.
Some signs could be pointing to the Saints making Lattimore available. The team used a second-round pick on Kool-Aid McKinstry in the 2024 NFL Draft to Alontae Taylor and Paulson Adebo. In their never-ending quest to clear cap space, Lattimore’s time in New Orleans could be coming to an end soon as he is coming up on another contract extension.
And, the Saints have plenty of experience playing without Lattimore in the lineup. He has missed 17 games in the last two seasons and the team has more than held its own. Their QBR of 47.7 without him is a little better than the 48.5 they posted with him in the lineup.
Moving on from Lattimore may not be as detrimental as it would seem. But, the market for cornerbacks nearing their third contract isn’t very strong in recent history. Alas, getting a fourth-round pick back from the Jacksonville Jaguars, as Barnwell suggested, is better than nothing.
