One of the most polarizing players in the 2024 NBA Draft class is Bronny James. The son of future Hall of Famer LeBron James is drawing a lot of attention during the pre-draft process. After announcing that he was transferring from USC, James is keeping his name in the draft and won’t be returning to college.
It is certainly a bold decision for Bronny James to make. His game could certainly use some more development. In his freshman season with the Trojans, he averaged 4.8 points, making 36.6 percent of his shots overall and 26.7 percent from 3-point range.
At this point, his name is bigger than his game. He took part in the 2024 NBA Combine and the returns from scouts are not very positive. As shared by My Mixtapez on X, Bronny James did not impress, leaving his basketball future up in the air.
That certainly isn’t encouraging when it comes to the chances of Bronny James being selected in the 2024 NBA Draft. Based on those scouting reports, there isn’t a single attribute or skill he brings to the table that is NBA level currently.
Of course, that could change. If put on the correct development plan, Bronny James could improve his skills across the board. But, what team will be willing to do that, especially with LeBron saying that playing with his son isn’t the ultimate goal anymore; they want Bronny to be in the best place for his development.
The best place for that to happen is likely at the collegiate level. As one scout noted, Klutch Sports likely doesn’t want Bronny shuttling between the G League and NBA on a two-way deal. That certainly adds another layer of complication, as he isn’t viewed as an NBA-level player.
It will be interesting to see how things unfold. With LeBron set to hit free agency, a team could take a chance on selecting Bronny James hoping it means that his dad comes along as well.
