New York Knicks Jalen Brunson Speaks On 2023-24 Season

The 2023-24 season was a true breakout for New York Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson. He proved that his performance during the 2023 postseason was no fluke, as he carried that success over into the next campaign.

Jalen Brunson earned his first All-Star game nod, averaging 28.7 points, 6.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game. He finished fifth in the MVP voting and should earn a spot on one of the All-NBA teams.

Those numbers are even more impressive when taking into account just how much responsibility Brunson carried. With fellow All-Star Julius Randle sidelined by an injury, he was the single offensive hub for the team to play through.

He proved capable of carrying the load, putting up huge scoring nights while still getting his teammates involved. Unfortunately, their time in the 2024 NBA Playoffs came to an end in the Eastern Conference semifinals as the injuries became too much to overcome.

With Randle, Bojan Bogdanovic, Mitchell Robinson and OG Anunoby out, Brunson suffered a fractured hand in Game 7 against the Indiana Pacers. Josh Hart was battling through an abdominal strain as well.

Following their elimination, Jalen Brunson was asked to look back on the best season of his career. As expected, he saw pros and cons, and vows to come back even better for the 2024-25 campaign.

“I would say there’s pros and cons to how I played. The pros, obviously, are I played well individually at some points in the playoffs. The cons are that I didn’t play well enough to help my team move forward.

“You can say I got hurt in Game 7, I wasn’t playing well in Game 7. We had a 2-0 and a 3-2 lead, it’s just hard to look at things individually when you don’t help your team,” Brunson said.

By all accounts, the 2023-24 season was a success for the New York Knicks. But, in the opinion of Jalen Brunson, it was not, because the team didn’t win a championship or get close to one.

That mindset is what endears him so much to Knicks fans. He is the ultimate competitor and has only one goal; winning as much as possible.
