The Minnesota Vikings added a pair of tight ends to their practice squad on Wednesday, bringing in Devin Culp and Bryson Nesbit as they continue building depth at the position.
The moves came as the team placed wide receiver Michael Briscoe on the practice squad injured list. Minnesota also lost tight end Cam Grandy from the practice squad earlier, after the Cincinnati Bengals signed him.
Culp and Nesbit join a tight end group led by T.J. Hockenson, with Gavin Bartholomew and Ben Yurosek also on the active roster. Josh Oliver remains on injured reserve after a season-ending injury.
Culp, a 26-year-old former Washington Huskies player, was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL draft. He has appeared in 18 career games, recording six receptions for 94 yards and one touchdown.
He spent time with the Buccaneers and more recently on the Cleveland Browns practice squad before landing in Minnesota. At Washington, Culp totaled 66 receptions for 711 yards and four scores over his college career.
Nesbit returns to a familiar spot. The 24-year-old signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in April 2025 after a standout career at North Carolina. He spent most of last season on the practice squad and earned a reserve/future contract before being waived with an injury designation during final roster cuts this year.
At North Carolina, Nesbit caught 107 passes for 1,510 yards and 13 touchdowns. He earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2023.
The Vikings have received solid production from the tight end position through six games. The group has combined for roughly 38 receptions, 347 yards and two touchdowns.
Hockenson leads the way with 27 catches for 237 yards and both of the scores on 32 targets. He has been the primary option in the passing game for quarterback Kyler Murray.
Bartholomew has added seven receptions for 54 yards. Oliver contributed three catches for 46 yards before his injury, while Yurosek has one reception for 10 yards.
Oliver suffered a torn biceps in the fourth quarter of the Week 3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He underwent surgery and was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 29. The injury is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the season.
The addition of practice squad depth comes as the Vikings sit at 6-0 and atop the NFC North. Injuries have already thinned the tight end room, making extra options valuable as the schedule continues.
Minnesota has leaned on the position more as the season has progressed, using it for both blocking and receiving. With a playoff run looking possible for the undefeated club, maintaining flexibility at tight end remains a priority.
The team still faces several challenging games ahead, including an upcoming matchup against the Detroit Lions. Every roster spot and practice squad addition helps prepare for the grind of the regular season and beyond.
Opponents are expected to give the Vikings their best efforts as they try to end Minnesota’s perfect start. Building depth across positions, including tight end, gives the coaching staff more options when situations change.
Culp and Nesbit will look to show what they can do on the practice squad in the coming weeks. Their experience, even in limited roles, adds to the group behind the active roster players.
The Vikings have been active on the roster front this week as they work to stay healthy and competitive. These latest signings fit into that ongoing effort to strengthen the team heading into the second half of the season.
