One of the most anticipated events of the summer of 2024 is the return of EA Sports College Football 25. It has been a decade since an NCAA Football video game has been produced as EA Sports didn’t get its licensing contract renewed by the NCAA.

For years, there was speculation that the game could return at some point, especially with the new NIL rules in place for college sports. After years of waiting, we are only a few weeks away from the return of one of the most popular sports sims in video game history.

Just as the case with other sports video games, the cover athletes are a big deal. Gracing the cover of College Football 25 will be Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter, Michigan running back Donovan Edwards and Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers.

“It’s just a blessing to be able to be on the cover,” Hunter told ESPN. “We grew up watching this and looking at the covers, and now we’re on it. When I was young, I waited till 12 o’clock to get every NCAA. It was my favorite game by far. I still play the old NCAA 14 to this day.”

Hunter and Ewers were among the first high-profile players to opt in. More than 10,000 players opted in after EA Sports agreed that each player would receive $600 and a free copy of the game, valued at $70.

On the deluxe edition of the game, Hunter, Ewers and Edwards’s backs are on display in the tunnel of the Cotton Bowl. An extensive photo and video shoot was held for that, as Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe’s back was also present.

This year’s version of College Football 25 will feature all 134 FBS teams with the name, image and likeness of a majority of players. Before the NIL deals were in place, users would have to upload and edit the names of players on their own if they wanted more than just the position and number listed.

This game has been in the works for almost three years and fans are excited about it coming back to life. College Football 25 will be released on July 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to plenty of fanfare.
