Eagles’ D’Andre Swift Provides Strange Answer On Future

D’Andre Swift is approaching free agency after completing his debut season with the Philadelphia Eagles, and his future remains uncertain.

When asked whether he might consider re-signing with the Eagles, despite their history of being cautious with running back contracts, Swift kept the possibility open with a somewhat strange response.

“Time will tell. I mean, we’ll see. If the opportunity presents itself, we’ll see.”

Philadelphia acquired Swift from the Detroit Lions in last year’s draft, and he made the most of his fresh start after having a limited rushing role in his previous three seasons.

The former Georgia standout impressed with 1,049 rushing yards and five touchdowns on a career-high 229 carries, earning his first Pro Bowl selection. He also showcased his versatility by catching 39 of 49 targets for 214 yards and a touchdown.

However, the Eagles’ track record with running backs may not work in Swift’s favor when it comes to securing a long-term contract. They allowed Miles Sanders to depart after his 2022 Pro Bowl performance, with the first 1,000-yard rusher for the Eagles since LeSean McCoy opting for a four-year, $25.4 million deal with the Carolina Panthers.

Given their recent extension for Jalen Hurts before the 2023 season, the Eagles might adopt a similar approach with Swift’s free agency, seeking a more cost-effective replacement. Yet, it appears that Swift, at 25 years old, is not eager to part ways with the team.

In expressing his gratitude, D’Andre Swift acknowledged the contributions of his teammates, strength coaches, trainers, and cafeteria workers, emphasizing that everything about his season with the Eagles was special. As a Philadelphia native, he described the experience as amazing to play for his hometown team.
