Some Chiefs, Dolphins Players Got Frost-Bite During Wild Card Game

The weather conditions during the Wild Card Round matchup between the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs were brutal this past Saturday, as there were wind chills of minus-30 degrees.

A report surfaced on Tuesday that a group of fans had been hospitalized due to hypothermia, and now, it has come out that several Chiefs and Dolphins players ended up with frostbite, former NFL center A.Q. Shipley told the Pat McAfee Show on Wednesday.

“I think some people got some frostbite,” Shipley said. “We heard anyone who wasn’t wearing sleeves. I think on both sides. It was minus-30. That’s so cold. That’s what I heard from sources.”

While Shipley did not specify which players got frostbite, his report certainly sounds valid given how cold it actually was (especially considering some guys weren’t wearing sleeves).

Shipley played nine seasons in the NFL, spending time with the Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The elements certainly had an effect on the game, as both quarterbacks—Tua Tagovailoa and Patrick Mahomes—had difficulty completing passes. Tagovailoa went just 20-for-39 while Mahomes went 23-of-41.

However, Miami definitely experienced more difficulty handling the weather than Kansas City, as the Chiefs ended up coming away with a 26-9 win. It’s not all that surprising given the fact that the Dolphins have become accustomed to playing in the sweltering heat of South Beach.

Kansas City will now move on to face the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round of the playoffs this Sunday. Given how horrendous the weather has been in Buffalo recently, it doesn’t seem like the Chiefs will get any break from the harsh conditions.

The Bills and Chiefs met in Kansas City earlier in the season, with Buffalo coming away with a win.
