As the Kansas City Chiefs gear up for their AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Houston Texans, tight end Travis Kelce is already preparing for what he expects to be a tough battle. The Chiefs, aiming for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl victory, will host the Texans at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday.

Kelce, who has been an essential piece of the Chiefs’ offense throughout their playoff run, voiced his concern about the speed and power of the Texans’ defensive line. Despite the Chiefs’ dominant performance throughout the regular season, Kelce recognizes that Houston’s defensive coordinator, Matt Burke, could pose significant challenges.

“The Texans, you want to talk about playing fast,” Kelce said on the New Heights podcast. “That D-line, that defense, it’s a real deal right there.”

The Texans have demonstrated their defensive prowess in recent weeks, most notably in their AFC Wild Card victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Houston’s defense stifled the Chargers, limiting them to just 12 points while forcing four interceptions from quarterback Justin Herbert. Kelce took notice of the Texans’ ability to create turnovers and disrupt the opposing offense.

“They showed it this past weekend against the Chargers and what they can do. They can create turnovers. They’re a tough team. I’m excited for the challenge,” Kelce added.

Houston’s defense has been formidable, and its speed and intensity have made them a dangerous playoff team. In the Wild Card game, rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud passed for 282 yards and a touchdown, while running back Joe Mixon added 106 rushing yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Nico Collins also contributed with 122 receiving yards and a touchdown.

“This team plays very, very well together,” Kelce said of the Texans. “It’s going to take all 11 (players) on the field.”

The Chiefs enter this game with high hopes, having earned a first-round playoff berth by leading the AFC at the end of the regular season. With a win over Houston, Kansas City would advance to the AFC Conference Championship for the seventh consecutive year, aiming to keep their hopes alive for a third straight Super Bowl appearance. The Chiefs have won four Super Bowls in their storied history, and they are now focused on adding a fifth.

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for this high-stakes contest, Travis Kelce’s acknowledgment of the Houston Texans’ defense serves as a reminder that no team can be underestimated in the postseason. It will take everything the Chiefs have to overcome a Houston squad that is poised to make a deep playoff run.
