With the MLB Trade Deadline getting closer, a lot of teams are monitoring the current situation with the Toronto Blue Jays. Their star shortstop, Bo Bichette, is starting to be mentioned in rumors.
As we get closer to the MLB Trade Deadline with the weather warming up, we are starting to see teams emerge as buyers and sellers. One of the teams that everyone is keeping an eye on is the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays have had a disappointing season and with the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees playing excellent baseball, they are going to be hard-pressed to make a run in the division.
If the Toronto Blue Jays do decide to become sellers and move some of their talented young core, they will likely be able to get quite the haul. Here’s what Bob Nightengale had to say about the situation in Toronto, involving Bo Bichette.
“Rival executives believe that if the Toronto Blue Jays don’t turn it around, and are unable to sign Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette to extensions, they will be open to moving them,” Nightengale reported. “The Chicago Cubs have privately discussed the possibility of trying to acquire Guerrero at the trade deadline.”
It is very interesting to see both Vladimir Guerrero and Bo Bichette being available, as they appeared to be cornerstone players for the franchise for years to come. However, with the Blue Jays struggling, it seems like anyone will be available for the right price.
For Bichette, he has had a very disappointing start to the season and his play certainly is contributing to the Jays not playing up to par. After hitting over .300 with 20 home runs last year, Bichette’s numbers are way down so far, as he is hitting under .240 with just four home runs in 63 games.
At 26 years old, Bo Bichette still has a lot of potential as a player, but this has certainly been a down year. For the Toronto Blue Jays, trading him at a low would be a tough pill to swallow considering the success he has had as a young player.
