The Texas Longhorns received promising news regarding star quarterback Quinn Ewers’ injury status, as head coach Steve Sarkisian shared an update indicating that the sophomore signal-caller is progressing well in his recovery.

Ewers, who has been sidelined due to an abdominal strain, is inching closer to making his return to the field.

In a media session on Monday, Sarkisian confirmed that Ewers had participated in the team’s practice, hinting that a comeback might not be far off.

“If I had to put a report out, he’d be questionable for Saturday,” Sarkisian noted, speaking ahead of Texas’ highly anticipated SEC debut against Mississippi State.

The “questionable” tag offers some insight into Ewers’ recovery trajectory, as it aligns with the SEC’s availability reports, which define a “questionable” player as having a 50 percent chance of playing in an upcoming game.

This update reflects measured optimism that Ewers could suit up for Saturday’s contest.

Ewers sustained the abdominal strain during the second quarter of Texas’ victory over UTSA two weeks ago. After initially retreating to the sideline, Ewers eventually left for the locker room to undergo further evaluation. He later reappeared on the sideline in street clothes, signaling that his day was done.

In his absence, Arch Manning stepped in and made his first career start, leading the Longhorns to a decisive win over UL Monroe. Manning’s performance provided Texas with stability at the quarterback position, but there’s no doubt that Ewers’ return would be a welcome boost as the team faces tougher SEC competition.

Prior to his injury, Ewers had been playing at a high level, completing 73.4 percent of his passes for 691 yards and eight touchdowns over three games. His leadership and ability to manage the offense have been key components of Texas’ success this season.

While the Longhorns have shown resilience in Ewers’ absence, his return could provide the spark needed as they enter SEC play, where the competition will only intensify.

Texas fans will be eagerly awaiting further updates on Ewers’ status throughout the week.

As the No. 1-ranked Longhorns prepare to make their SEC debut against Mississippi State, Quinn Ewers’ availability will likely remain a game-time decision. However, Sarkisian’s latest comments suggest that the quarterback is on the mend, and his return may be just around the corner.
