The St. Louis Cardinals have been highly active during the postseason, determined to rebound from their disappointing 2023 season. Their recent focus has shifted towards strengthening their bullpen after securing a trio of new starters for their rotation.

According to Derrick Goold of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals have been engaged in ongoing discussions with former Los Angeles Dodgers reliever, Ryan Brasier. The extent of these negotiations and whether a contract offer has been presented remain undisclosed at this point.

The Cardinals are acutely aware of their need for additional bullpen support, given their lackluster performance in the late innings during the previous season.

St. Louis’ bullpen struggled, ranking 23rd in MLB with a 4.47 ERA. They also had a disappointing .257 batting average against, ranking 25th, and a mere 562 total strikeouts, placing them 28th in the league.

Ryan Brasier emerges as a potential solution to the Cardinals’ bullpen woes. The right-handed pitcher experienced a resurgence following his arrival in Los Angeles in June. Over 39 appearances, Brasier boasted an impressive 0.70 ERA and an impressive 38/10 K/BB ratio. This remarkable turnaround demonstrated his enduring value as a relief pitcher after facing difficulties towards the end of his tenure with the Boston Red Sox.

The interest in Ryan Brasier isn’t confined to St. Louis alone, as other teams are also vying for his services. Nevertheless, the fact that the Cardinals have sustained ongoing discussions with Brasier signifies a mutual interest in working together.

The Cardinals are earnestly committed to improving and contending for a playoff spot in 2024. While Ryan Brasier may not be the most prominent name on the market, his potential signing would carry significant weight. It would bolster St. Louis’ bullpen significantly and move them closer to realizing their aspirations of a successful turnaround season.
