Bleacher Report recently came out with their list of big names who could be moved before the MLB Trade Deadline. Making the list was Paul Goldschmidt of the St. Louis Cardinals.
The St. Louis Cardinals are renowned for their consistency over the last few decades. The organization is one of the most well-respected in baseball, but it has had a tough time this season.
As we approach June and the season starts to heat up, the Cardinals hover around the .500 mark in the NL Central. With the division being fairly tight from top to bottom, things could change drastically one way or another in just a few weeks.
With the Cardinals playing some mediocre baseball, they could look to move on from one of their veterans Paul Goldschmidt according to Bleacher Report. Here’s what they had to say.
This season, Goldschmidt is slashing .224/.300/.358 with seven home runs through 201 at-bats.
It won’t surprise anyone to see Goldschmidt go and it likely won’t take a ton to land him. Keep an eye on whether Nolan Arenado waives his no-trade clause to also join a contender.
It was just two seasons ago when Goldschmidt won the MVP for the St. Louis Cardinals, but after a drop in production last season, Goldschmidt has continued to struggle so far this season. As a free agent after the year, Paul Goldschmidt’s time in St. Louis seems to end.
With that being said, a contender might be interested in giving up a little to get Goldschmidt to help bolster a lineup against lefties, and hope he can find some of his MVP form. Whether the St. Louis Cardinals are in the race in the National League or not, their shopping Goldschmidt does make a lot of sense.
As we head into the summer months, Paul Goldschmidt will be one of the batters to keep an eye on as the rumor mill heats up.
