More than four months have passed since Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC’s Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, vanished from her residence in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona. Authorities continue to search for answers in the case, which began on Sunday, February 1, when the 84-year-old woman was reported missing.
Despite extensive efforts, key details about what happened that day remain unclear to investigators and the public alike.
Video footage captured an unidentified individual entering her home around the time of her disappearance, yet both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been unable to name any suspects or develop significant leads so far. The lack of progress has left family members and the community seeking resolution in what has become a high-profile missing person investigation.
In the midst of this unresolved case, local law enforcement is now juggling another serious incident. Coral Michelle Smith is currently being sought by authorities on charges of kidnapping and assault. The events unfolded on May 29 near the 5400 block of North San Joaquin Avenue, an area located roughly fifteen minutes from Nancy Guthrie’s home.
According to updates shared by Fox News correspondent Michael Ruiz, the female victim in the Smith case—whose identity has not been released—was successfully located following the reported incident. While the search for Smith remains active, officials have moved quickly to address any potential connections between the two events.
“This is not connected to the Guthrie investigation,” a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said.
This latest development adds to a series of disturbances reported in the vicinity of the Guthrie residence over recent days. Just earlier this week, deputies responded to complaints of disruptive activity and took three individuals into custody for allegedly causing problems in the neighborhood.
KVOA News 4 Tucson identified the arrested individuals and outlined the specific charges filed against each. Alexander Zabel, associated with the “Criminal Network” YouTube channel, faces two counts of obstruction of a highway or public thoroughfare along with one count of public nuisance. Troy Bradshaw, from the “DAA JUICE” channel, was charged with one count of public nuisance. Damian Todd Enderle also received one count of public nuisance.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos emphasized a firmer stance moving forward to protect community peace.
“Despite those efforts, some individuals continued to disregard the law,” the statement read. “Sheriff Nanos will no longer tolerate behavior that disrupts the community or violates the law. Effective immediately, individuals found in violation of the law may be cited and released on a first offense.”
Pima County Attorney Laura Conover also weighed in on the decision to pursue charges.
“The Sheriff was advised by PCAO of potential criminal charges available involving misdemeanor public nuisance citations, given neighborhood reports of chronic challenges. These cases like all other cases must be thoroughly evaluated to see if they reach the threshold for prosecution in our office,” Conover said, via KVOA.
The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie continues to draw attention as the investigation proceeds without major breakthroughs more than four months after she was last seen. Officials from multiple agencies remain committed to uncovering what happened in the Catalina Foothills, even as they manage other pressing matters in the same region.
Family, friends, and concerned residents await further updates in hopes of bringing closure to this prolonged case.
