Report: Ole Miss, LSU Battle for Lane Kiffin Receives Massive Update

Ole Miss wraps up its regular season as one of the biggest breakout stories in college football, sitting at 10-1 and firmly entrenched in the top ten of the rankings, with a legitimate shot at the program’s first-ever College Football Playoff appearance.

The Rebels’ surge is the latest chapter in Lane Kiffin’s rapid transformation of the program, which has now produced back-to-back double-digit-win campaigns and restored consistent relevance in the brutal SEC landscape.

Yet just as Kiffin has Oxford dreaming big, the coaching carousel has placed him at the center of two high-profile vacancies. For weeks, the prevailing assumption was that Florida represented the primary threat to pry him away. That narrative, however, has shifted dramatically in recent days.

Multiple reports now indicate that Florida has quietly moved on to other candidates and is no longer building its search around the expectation of landing Kiffin.

At the same time, sources close to the situation say LSU has gone all-in on the pursuit, preparing what has been described as a blockbuster, long-term commitment that includes a contract north of $90 million and significant additional resources for roster construction and program infrastructure.

Whispers of booster involvement, private housing tours, and family visits to Baton Rouge have circulated for weeks, adding fuel to the growing momentum.

With Florida already conducting interviews with backup options and, per sources, effectively taking Kiffin off its board, the Gators appear to have conceded the race.

Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter stated publicly that an announcement regarding Kiffin’s future will come the day after the Egg Bowl, setting up a definitive resolution as early as this Saturday.

Should Florida’s withdrawal hold, the competition narrows sharply and tilts the advantage decisively toward LSU, though no deal has been publicly finalized at this stage.

For Ole Miss, the potential loss of Kiffin on the eve of a possible playoff run would trigger immediate upheaval: open recruiting commitments, staff uncertainty, and the urgent need to identify a successor, all while trying to keep the current team focused on a historic postseason opportunity.

As of now, every available signal points to Baton Rouge as Kiffin’s most probable next destination, but the final chapter won’t be written until Ole Miss makes its post-Egg Bowl declaration.
