The Philadelphia Eagles just won the Super Bowl thanks much in part to a fierce pass rush led by Josh Sweat and Milton Williams, but both players left via free agency.
Sweat’s departure in particular leaves a hole at edge rusher, and while the Eagles did sign Azeez Ojulari, the former New York Giants defender has had tremendous difficulty staying healthy throughout his career.
As a result, Philadelphia may look to shore up the position in the NFL Draft, and Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus has the Eagles swinging a big trade to do just that.
Cameron proposes that Philadelphia sends its own first-round pick (No. 32) as well as pick Nos. 96 and 161 to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for the 24th overall selection. He then predicts the Eagles to take Boston College edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku at No. 24.
“After losing several defensive linemen in free agency, general manager Howie Roseman gets aggressive to move up ahead of the pack and replenish the Eagles’ front with a highly productive edge rusher in Ezeiruaku,” Cameron wrote. “The Boston College standout charted well in both pass-rush win rate (18.2%) and run-stop rate (10.1%) last season, making him an ideal option to become the next great edge rusher to wear the Kelly Green.”
Ezeiruaku flew under the radar in 2024 in spite of posting massive numbers, racking up 80 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 16.5 sacks en route to All-American honors. Had he played for a more prominent school, he surely would have been more of a household name.
Even with Sweat and Williams on the roster this past year, Philadelphia only managed 41 sacks, but the pass rush obviously came alive against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Still, it proves that the Eagles have needed more pass-rushing depth for quite some time, and they may very well go that route in the first round of the draft later this month.
