Philadelphia 76ers Rumors: Interest Waning in Paul George

Paul George, 76ers Rumors

With NBA free agency right around the corner, recent Philadelphia 76ers rumors have been surrounding Paul George.

Coming into the offseason, there has been no shortage of Philadelphia 76ers rumors. After being bounced in the first round by the New York Knicks, the 76ers knew that they were armed to make some big improvements this offseason.

With Tobias Harris’ awful contract coming off the books, the 76ers have plenty of money to go acquire a star. For the last month or so, they have been heavily linked to Paul George of the Los Angeles Clippers. With George likely to test free agency, he will be arguably one of the most desired free agent targets.

However, recent reports indicate that the 76ers might not be as high on Paul George as they once were. Here’s what Shams Charania had to say.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the 76ers’ interest in acquiring George has “significantly waned in recent days” and the front office is now expected to be “aggressive elsewhere” to upgrade the roster.

It’s surprising to see this shift from the 76ers, as George is a natural fit with the team. Still an outstanding two-way player, one can speculate that the 76ers might look to add a younger player to pair with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

If George isn’t in the cards, perhaps the 76ers are now going to be focused on Brandon Ingram. Like George, Ingram is a very talented forward, which fills a need for the 76ers. Also, Ingram is much younger than George and could be a building block for the franchise with Maxey for years to come.

Even if the 76ers rumors are true and the team isn’t interested in Paul George anymore, he should have no shortage of potential suitors this offseason. For the 76ers, they are in a great spot to catapult the team back into title contention with this cap space, but they must make the right decisions this offseason.
