The Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to make history during the 2024 NFL season. They became the first team since the New England Patriots in the 2003 and 2004 seasons to win back-to-back Super Bowls. Will they become the first franchise to three-peat?
It certainly would be hard to bet against them. As long as Andy Reid remains head coach and Patrick Mahomes is his quarterback, the Kansas City Chiefs will be tough to beat. Last season, they overcame some major issues at wide receiver to win another championship.
This offseason, they addressed that flaw. Marquise Brown was signed in free agency and Xavier Worthy was selected in the first round. The Brown signing was the move Aaron Schatz of ESPN liked the most.
That signing played a major part in the Kansas City Chiefs receiving a stellar grade for the 2024 NFL offseason. Schatz gave them an A-, naming the trade of cornerback L’Jarius Snead to the Tennessee Titans as their biggest move.
“Offensive tackle remains a question, though Kansas City did add Kingsley Suamataia in the second round of the draft, who might be able to start. And finally, an underrated addition is backup quarterback Carson Wentz, who should be a strong insurance option should Patrick Mahomes go down with a short-term injury,” wrote Schatz.
Having a question mark at left tackle would normally be a damning flaw for a team. But the greatness of Mahomes makes up for most flaws offensively. If Suamataia or Wanya Morris plays adequately, their superstar quarterback will handle the rest.
The only move that the Kansas City Chiefs made in the offseason that Schatz didn’t like was how the contract of star defensive tackle Chris Jones was structured. Bringing him back was a massive win for the franchise.
But, the guarantees on the deal will grow as long as he is on the roster. Jones is dominant, but turning 30 in July, the Kansas City Chiefs took a bit of a risk by giving him as much money as they did.
Alas, if they win another Super Bowl and three-peat, no one will care about how much more money the team owes him in guarantees in 2025. This is a team that improved in the offseason and will be among the contenders once again for the Lombardi trophy.
