The New York Giants boast a solid group of running backs on their roster, yet indications from the offseason suggest the team remains interested in bolstering that position further. Reports emerging from the NFL Combine point to Big Blue actively exploring options to acquire a premier running back, either through free agency or the upcoming draft.
A key development involves the Giants holding a formal meeting with Notre Dame standout Jeremiyah Love during the event in Indianapolis. This interaction highlights the team’s potential interest in adding a high-impact talent to their backfield.
Widely regarded as one of the premier playmakers available in this draft class, Love possesses the skills and athleticism that could position him as a top-10 selection overall. Speculation continues about whether the Giants might consider selecting him with their No. 5 overall pick, though that decision remains uncertain at this stage.
The 20-year-old prospect expressed positive sentiments about his conversation with the Giants’ staff.
“All of the coaches in the Giants room were really cool people,” he said on Friday. “I like them a lot, I feel like they like me a lot as well — hopefully they call my name on draft night and we can continue building better relationships.”
Love went on to emphasize the appeal of joining New York’s roster, particularly the chance to team up with their promising young runners. He highlighted the value of sharing the field with a tough, experienced presence in the backfield.
“Every team has great players,” he said. “But the Giants in general — being able to play with a back like Skatt, to have someone who is more of a veteran than me that I can learn from, I’d be able to take away a lot from that.”
When addressing the expectations tied to being projected as a high first-round choice, Love appeared unfazed by the attention. He maintains a grounded approach regardless of where he might land.
“I’m just being myself,” Love said. “People see that as me being a projected top-10 first-round pick, it really doesn’t matter to me — I’m gonna go out and be myself no matter where I go or no matter where my name is called. It’s a great honor seeing people recognize me as such — I just plan on going out and proving myself right, and proving everyone else right, as well.”
In his final collegiate campaign with the Fighting Irish, Love delivered an outstanding performance that solidified his status as a top prospect. He accumulated 1,652 yards from scrimmage and scored 21 touchdowns, showcasing his versatility as both a rusher and a receiver out of the backfield.
Love’s impressive showing included 1,372 rushing yards on 199 carries with 18 touchdowns, along with 27 receptions for 280 yards and three more scores. As a Heisman Trophy finalist and consensus All-American, his production underscores why teams like the Giants are taking notice during this pre-draft process.
The potential addition of such a dynamic athlete could provide a significant boost to New York’s ground game moving forward.
