Giants Land Brock Purdy in Ludicrous 49ers Trade Idea

The New York Giants are definitely in need of a quarterback, and signing Jameis Winston doesn’t change that. Could San Francisco 49ers signal-caller Brock Purdy be the answer for them?

Craig Carton of FS1 has proposed a ridiculous trade idea in which the Giants would send three first-round draft picks to the 49ers in exchange for Purdy. He then has San Francisco signing Aaron Rodgers to replace Purdy.

I mean, yeah: New York would love to have Purdy, but the Giants almost surely aren’t trading three first-rounders for him. It also doesn’t seem likely that the Niners would want to move Purdy, either, although they might be tempted if a team offers them a trio of first-round draft choices.

Purdy is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, and he is in line to earn a massive pay day, even after a rather shaky 2024 campaign. He threw for 3,864 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 65.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 96.1.

However, the 25-year-old is two years removed from finishing fourth in MVP voting after totaling 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 picks, completing 69.4 percent of his throws and registering a 113 passer rating. Plus, to be fair to Purdy, the 49ers were ravaged by injuries this past season.

The chances of San Francisco actually trading Purdy are slim to none, so really, this is much ado about nothing. It will be interesting to see if the Niners do give him what he wants in terms of an extension, though.

As far as the Giants? New York owns the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft, so it may not be able to get its hands on either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders next month, so Big Blue may be exploring its options as far as the quarterback position is concerned. But this hypothetical Purdy trade will remain just that: a hypothetical.
