As the New England Patriots aim to revitalize their offense under the new leadership of Mike Vrabel, they could look to set their sights on one of the Chicago Bears’ key players.
The Bears, currently evaluating their roster for the 2025 season, might find themselves in a position to entertain trade offers for wide receiver D.J. Moore.
Sports Illustrated analyst Alan Goldsher suggests that the Patriots could make a significant move by acquiring Moore, who could serve as a pivotal piece in building an offense around their young quarterback, Drake Maye.
Goldsher’s trade proposal involves the Patriots offering tight end Hunter Henry along with their 2025 second-round pick (No. 38 overall) in exchange for Moore and a 2025 seventh-round pick from the Bears.
“No offense to DeMario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte, but Pats are one of the most WR-needy teams in the league, and GM Eliot Wolf would undoubtedly love to hand emerging quarterback Drake Maye a top-shelf pass-catcher,” Goldsher said.
“Would Wolf be willing to give up a second-rounder to make that happen?”
While the Patriots’ need for a dynamic receiver is clear, the question remains whether the Bears would be willing to part with Moore, especially as they look to construct their offense around rookie sensation Caleb Williams.
However, Goldsher raises an intriguing point about Moore’s record:
“Moving on from a high-end talent like D.J. Moore wouldn’t be easy, but unless he can help a team win—something he has yet to prove he can do—it’s well worth a serious discussion…especially when your number one offensive goal for 2025 should be to unlock every ounce of Caleb Williams’ potential,” Goldsher said.
“But considering his .384 winning percentage, Moore might be a Charles Barkley-type, a stat monster who, for reasons we’ll likely never understand, can’t drag his team across the finish line.”
Moore’s career has been marked by personal accolades rather than team victories, amassing a 40-64 record with the teams he’s played for. While it’s harsh to pin team success solely on one player, especially in a team sport like football, this aspect might weigh on the Bears’ decision-making.
The Bears’ general manager, Ryan Poles, now faces the dilemma of whether trading Moore would bolster their draft capital and team-building strategy or if it would further weaken a squad that had a challenging 2024 season. The decision could define the Bears’ direction for years to come, balancing between immediate talent on the field and future draft picks that could be molded into the team’s vision.
