This Cowboys-Bills Offseason Trade Sends Stefon Diggs To Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys have been one of the better teams in the NFC throughout the 2023 season. However, there are still a few flaws on the roster that need to be addressed this upcoming offseason.

One of the most glaring needs is at wide receiver. CeeDee Lamb has blossomed into a star and bonafide No. 1 option, breaking the Cowboys single-season record for receiving yards with 1,651 and counting. He also leads the NFL with 122 receptions.

But, the production behind him has been inconsistent at times. Brandin Cooks, who was acquired from the Houston Texans in the offseason, has been able to remain healthy but is putting together one of the least productive seasons of his career.

The same goes for Michael Gallup, who has not looked the same since suffering an ACL injury near the end of the 2021 season. While the Cowboys could take a chance on younger players such as Jalen Tolbert or KaVontae Turpin, an NFL analyst has suggested instead that they swing for the fences in the offseason.

Alex Kay of Bleacher Report believes that the Cowboys should instead make a move for Buffalo Bills superstar Stefon Diggs. Rumors have surrounded Diggs since the offseason when he had a part in the final day of minicamp being canceled.

“While it won’t be easy for the cash-strapped Cowboys to take on the remainder of massive contract extension Diggs signed in 2022, Dallas could orchestrate a series of cuts and restructures to fit the elite receiver on the books and make the offense unstoppable in 2024,” wrote Kay.

What could a deal between the teams look like? Kay suggested that Dallas send a 2024 first-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick, assuming that the third-rounder is a compensatory pick they are awarded, for Diggs.

Pairing Diggs with Lamb would give the Cowboys the best wide receiver pairing in the NFL. As Kay noted, it won’t be easy to make work, but if a player of that caliber is available, you do whatever is needed salary cap-wise to make it work.

There is also an appeal of Diggs landing in Dallas because his brother, Trevon Diggs, is a star cornerback on the team. While he may not have much say in the process if he can steer a potential trade in any direction, playing alongside his brother would likely be something he prefers.
