Buffalo Bills wide receiver DJ Moore is day-to-day with a shoulder injury that doctors do not consider serious, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday.
Moore has a chance to play in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers, according to Schefter’s source, who added that his availability is not a lock.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Friday that Moore is believed to have suffered an AC joint sprain, per NFL.com.
The reports ruled out the worst-case outcomes that followed Moore’s exit from Buffalo’s 41-31 win over the Detroit Lions.
Moore went down with just under three minutes left in the second quarter while diving for a low pass from Josh Allen in the back of the end zone. He landed hard on his left shoulder and grabbed near his collarbone before walking to the locker room for X-rays.
The Bills listed him as questionable with a shoulder injury and a stinger, then ruled him out shortly after halftime. Head coach Joe Brady had no update after the game.
Dr. Jesse Morse, a sports medicine physician who is not treating Moore, wrote on X that sprains of that type usually take two to three weeks to heal, with players most often missing one game. He said he would not be surprised if Moore played against the Chargers in a limited role.
The schedule works in Buffalo’s favor. After playing twice in five days, the Bills have 10 days off before hosting Los Angeles.
Brady is scheduled to speak with reporters Friday afternoon, according to Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550.
Moore has not missed a game since Week 15 of the 2020 season. He played in all 17 regular-season games in each of the last five seasons.
The Bills acquired him from the Chicago Bears in March. Buffalo sent the No. 60 overall pick in the 2026 draft to Chicago for Moore and a 2026 fifth-round selection.
His ties to Brady drove the deal. Moore played for Brady in 2020 and 2021 when Brady was Carolina’s offensive coordinator, and he topped 1,100 receiving yards in both seasons.
His Buffalo debut showed why the Bills made the move. Moore caught five passes for 100 yards and a 43-yard touchdown in a 36-31 Week 1 win over the Houston Texans. His eight targets led the team.
He had no catches against Detroit. The one pass thrown his way was wiped out by an offensive holding penalty on the play he was hurt.
Moore is playing on the four-year, $110 million extension he signed with the Bears in 2024, which runs through 2029. His $23.5 million base salary for 2026 is fully guaranteed. As part of the trade, Buffalo guaranteed $15.5 million of his 2028 base salary.
If Moore can’t go, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Joshua Palmer handled the receiver snaps after he left Thursday. Tight end Dalton Kincaid gives Allen another option.
Buffalo has given no public timeline beyond Friday’s reports. Should Moore need more than the 10-day break, the Bills would face the Chargers without their top receiver.
Buffalo, 2-0, hosts the Chargers at Highmark Stadium on Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. ET. The New England Patriots visit Oct. 4 to close a three-game homestand.
