Jets’ Garrett Wilson Doesn’t Hold Back On 2023 Season

The New York Jets were expected to be one of the best teams in football this season, and wide receiver Garrett Wilson was supposed to represent a major part of the turnaround.

Instead, the Jets went just 7-10 and missed the playoffs for the 13th straight year, good for the longest active postseason drought in the NFL.

Of course, New York’s 2023 campaign was not so cut and dry.

The Jets swung a blockbuster deal to acquire Aaron Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers last offseason, and immediately, they were understandably labeled Super Bowl contenders.

Unfortunately, Rodgers ultimately tore his Achilles on New York’s first offensive series of Week 1, effectively ending Gang Green’s Super Bowl hopes.

However, Wilson does not seem to think Rodgers’ injury is an excuse for the club’s overall shoddy play.

“What happened this season can’t happen again,” Wilson said, via Brian Costello of The New York Post. “It’s got to be better. We’ve got to make adjustments in the game. We’ve got to do things to counter what we’re getting and be able to put points on the board, because in the two years I’ve been here, honestly, it’s been tough. It’s been tough going.”

The 23-year-old added that 2023 was “the worst year” of his life and that “football hasn’t been this hard” at any other point of his life.

Wilson hauled in 95 receptions for 1,042 yards and three touchdowns this season, so it’s not like he wasn’t productive. Still, he is obviously frustrated with the lack of team success.

The Jets took Wilson with the 10th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. He caught 83 passes for 1,103 yards and four scores during his rookie campaign, in which New York went 7-10.

With Rodgers on the mend, things should look different for Garrett Wilson and Co. in 2024.
