Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was slapped with a $50,000 fine by the NFL for his behavior both during and after his team’s Week 14 loss to the Buffalo Bills, and this week, Mahomes spoke about the penalty.

“I honestly don’t even know how that process works,” Mahomes told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk when asked if he would appeal the fine. “I think it’s the first time I’ve ever been fined. But I know mentally I’m just gonna move on and play. Now that the game’s over and I have an extra day, I’ll figure out how that process goes.”

Mahomes was livid over an offensive offsides call that wiped out what would have been a go-ahead Chiefs touchdown with under two minutes remaining. He had to be restrained by teammates from going after the officials, and he also expressed his displeasure to Bills quarterback Josh Allen in their on-field postgame handshake. The two-time MVP then continued his assault on the referees in his postgame press conference.

All of that ultimately led to Mahomes being hit with a hefty fine.

“I knew that I let my emotions get the best of me,” Mahomes said. “I knew that something was coming. I didn’t know what it was going to be and then the fine came and all I can do now is move on and become a better person about it and not let that scenario happen again.”

Mahomes and the Chiefs righted the ship with a 27-17 win over the New England Patriots this past weekend, with Mahomes going 27-for-37 with 305 yards, two touchdowns and a couple of interceptions.

“As a man and as a person, you have to deal with the consequences of your actions,” added Mahomes. “That’s how I was always taught growing up.”

Patrick Mahomes and Co. improved to 9-5 with their win over the Patriots and will take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day. They will then face the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers to close out the regular season.
