If you love basketball, there’s nothing better than the NBA Finals. If you love a team, you want to see them get to the big dance. So, if you’re a fan of the Golden State Warriors, you’ve had a good decade.

After all, the Warriors have been to the Finals plenty of times during that period. For the most part, they’ve emerged victorious. In 2018-19, there was an exception.

With the Warriors decimated by injuries, the Toronto Raptors emerged victorious. What’s happened to each team since? Well, the Warriors went on to win another NBA title.

The Raptors haven’t even gotten close. They seem to be gradually declining. Could they send Pascal Siakam to the Warriors as a result?

Toronto Raptors Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins, F Jonathan Kuminga, G/F Moses Moody, 2026 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2028 First-Round Pick (GSW)

Golden State Warriors Receive: F/C Pascal Siakam

On the other hand, a Finals trip isn’t the goal. An NBA championship is the goal. Should fans be satisfied with a trip to the Finals if they fall short?

It depends on your perspective. Some will claim that “ring culture” is ruining NBA discourse. They’ve got a point. Individual players are unfairly judged by whether or not they’ve ever won an NBA title.

Throughout history, we’ve seen great players who, for whatever reason, didn’t climb the mountain top. On the other hand, we need a measure of success, don’t we?

If we decide that titles don’t matter, what are the players playing for? In the end, it’s a delicate balance to walk. Does this deal get the Warriors closer to winning another title?

We think so. It’s been a disappointing year for the Warriors. If they make this deal, throw those results out of the window. Acquiring Siakam would make them an entirely different team.

After all, he’s one of the best two-way wings in the NBA. Siakam should be an especially interesting fit in Golden State. They run a motion offense, and he’s an outstanding passer.

This should make the Warriors serious title contenders once again. That’s not to say that there are no risks here. There are. Siakam’s contract runs out soon, and extending him could be tricky for the Warriors.

Still, if they’re interested in making one more title push, it’s difficult to think of a better player for them to acquire. Should the Raptors part with him?

The Raptors need to move Siakam. By now, that’s common knowledge. The question is whether this is the right return for him or not.

Some will question our logic. They’ll say that Kuminga overlaps with Scottie Barnes. Why are the Raptors doubling down on wings again?

Modernize your thought process. Barnes is a playmaker, and Kuminga is a scorer. The Raptors could even shift O.G. Anunoby to the 2 and run the same wing-heavy lines they’ve been experimenting with – only now, they’ll be young.

Moreover, they’ll also have Moses Moody and a pair of new first-round picks at their disposal. In time, that could get them back to the NBA Finals.
