Expectations were high for the New York Jets’ offense coming into the 2023 regular season. After years of woefully quarterback play, the team was excited to see what future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers would bring. Unfortunately, it wasn’t anything.
Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury in the team’s fourth offensive snap of the season in Week 1 vs. the Buffalo Bills. That led to the team relying on Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian for the remainder of the season.
The results on offense were as disastrous as everyone, seemingly except Jets’ decision-makers, thought it would be. Moving the ball and scoring points was a struggle again as New York is near or at the bottom in most offensive stats.
NFL News & Rumors: Garrett Wilson & New York Jets Updates
However, a few bright spots have been on that side of the ball this season. One of them has been wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Despite the poor quarterback performance, Wilson has put together another strong season in New York.
On Sunday against the Washington Commanders, he recorded his 80th reception of the season. According to Jets PR on X, formerly Twitter, Wilson is the ninth player in NFL history to catch at least 80 passes in each of his first two seasons. He is only the third player in franchise history to reach that plateau in back-to-back seasons.

After winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in the 2022 season, Wilson has put together another strong campaign, all things considered. He has 88 receptions for 958 yards and three touchdowns through 15 games.
NFL News & Rumors: Garrett Wilson & New York Jets Updates
Wilson has already surpassed last season’s total for targets on the season despite having two games remaining. While his yardage is down from his rookie campaign, Wilson has looked as explosive as ever when the team has been able to get the ball into his hands.
The Ohio State product has all the makings of a true No. 1 receiver. If Rodgers is healthy and the Jets can figure out their quarterback situation, Wilson’s production should be taken to another level in 2024.
