Bills Reporter Fires Major Question At Buffalo About Stefon Diggs

What exactly is going on with Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs? Bills insider Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News is attempting to get to the bottom of it.

Diggs has seen a rather steady decline in production in recent weeks, and during Buffalo’s Week 16 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Diggs logged just five catches for 29 yards.

It marked the third straight game that Diggs finished with under 50 receiving yards, and he hasn’t logged 100 yards since Week 6, which was all the way back on Oct. 15.

Skurski even noted that Diggs only played in 33 of the Bills’ 55 offensive snaps against the Chargers, meaning he was only on the field 60 percent of the time.

That does not make much sense for a No. 1 receiver.

Now, to be fair, Diggs did get banged up on the first play of the game and was evaluated by the team’s medical staff before returning to the field. So maybe that was the reason for Diggs’ unusually low snap count?

The thing is, Bills head coach Sean McDermott kind of brushed off that question when it was broached after the game.

“Not that I’m aware of,” McDermott said when asked if Diggs’ injury affected his snap count. “I haven’t discussed that with (head athletic trainer) Nate (Breske). Not that I’m aware of, but I understand that he was in and out maybe more than normal.”

Strange, to say the least.

On the season overall, Diggs has hauled in 96 receptions for 1,070 yards and eight touchdowns, so it’s not like he hasn’t been productive. It represents his sixth straight 1,000-yard campaign.

The 30-year-old is now in his fourth year with Buffalo after coming over in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. He has made three straight trips to the Pro Bowl.

Stefon Diggs and the Bills are 9-6 and will host the New England Patriots next weekend before heading down to South Beach for an AFC East showdown with the Miami Dolphins to wrap up the regular season.
