Coby White led the charge with 30 points as the Chicago Bulls secured a thrilling 124-119 overtime victory against the Houston Rockets. Zach LaVine’s crucial 3-pointer with 1:46 left in overtime was a game-changer, contributing to his overall tally of 25 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. This marked the Bulls’ third consecutive win.
LaVine, along with Nikola Vucevic, who had 18 points and 15 rebounds, played without any minute restrictions in their third game back from injuries. Despite DeMar DeRozan’s shooting struggles, finishing with 19 points, the Bulls managed to pull through.
Bulls coach Billy Donovan praised LaVine’s resilience and versatility, especially in overtime, where he made impactful plays and secured vital rebounds.
For the Rockets, Alperen Sengun, despite a scoreless first half, ended up with 25 points. Fred VanVleet contributed 20 points and 10 assists, while Jabari Smith Jr. added 18 points and 15 rebounds. Rockets coach Ime Udoka commended Sengun’s second-half performance, which showcased his true potential.
Houston made a remarkable comeback from a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter. However, they ultimately fell short, marking their second loss in a six-game road trip. The Bulls extended their lead with an Ayo Dosunmu corner three, but the Rockets fought back to tie the game, sending it into overtime.
In overtime, the Rockets initially led by five points, but LaVine’s six consecutive points, including a decisive three-pointer, shifted the momentum in Chicago’s favor. White’s additional three-pointer further cemented the Bulls’ lead.
The Bulls’ impressive shooting from beyond the arc was notable, especially against a Rockets defense known for limiting opponents’ 3-point shooting. White’s six 3-pointers contributed to the Bulls’ 19 successful shots from long range.
Looking ahead, the Rockets continue their road trip in Detroit, while the Bulls are set to host the Warriors, both games scheduled for Friday night.
