Social media personality and reality star Suede Brooks has shared new details about her past relationship with rapper Drake, describing an intense but short-lived connection that ended on a frightening note when she was in her early 20s.
In 2022, rumors swirled that Brooks, then 21, and Drake, 35, were dating after they were spotted vacationing together on a yacht in Saint-Tropez.
Reports at the time suggested the pair were simply “having fun,” but specifics about their time together remained largely private—until now.
During a recent appearance on Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde podcast, Brooks clarified the origins of their relationship.
She explained that it began after Drake performed at a friend’s party. What followed was an on-and-off casual romance lasting a few months. Brooks said she traveled to Toronto to see him and even met his mother during that period.
She spoke positively about their time together, calling Drake a “great guy” with a big personality and a sharp sense of humor.
Brooks noted that she was surprised he showed interest in her, as she didn’t see herself as his usual type. She confirmed they had been intimate but emphasized that she generally avoids staying in touch with past partners.
The relationship reportedly ended due to the challenges of dating someone with Drake’s demanding lifestyle and level of fame. Brooks described feeling exhausted by the travel and dynamic.
Things took a darker turn after the split. Brooks claimed she received alarming text messages from Drake that left her fearing for her safety.
She specifically alleged receiving messages threatening to have “b****es fold [her] up,” which she interpreted as a serious threat. At the time, living in Los Angeles, she said she didn’t leave her house for three months out of fear.
“When you hear those things said to you, coming from the most powerful artist in the world… It was very scary,” Brooks recounted, highlighting the power imbalance and her young age (21 or 22) at the time.
She attributed the escalation to a miscommunication, where Drake apparently believed she had been speaking negatively about him in Los Angeles. Brooks described the situation as emotional for both parties and suggested personal growth has occurred since then.
Despite the frightening aftermath, Brooks maintained a nuanced perspective. She described Drake as having a “great heart” and wished him well, praising his fun personality and talent. At the same time, she acknowledged the fear she felt, especially as someone who had looked up to him growing up.
