The Los Angeles Dodgers entered Tuesday’s matchup against the Kansas City Royals with a pair of notable adjustments that signaled both urgency and optimism.

After securing a hard-fought 6-5 victory the night before, the club announced that left-hander Blake Snell would make his return to the starting rotation, setting up an intriguing duel with Royals veteran Michael Wacha.

Just as significant was the decision involving outfielder Kyle Tucker, who had been held out of the previous night’s starting lineup but would now occupy the cleanup spot.

Manager Dave Roberts’ choice to slot Tucker fourth in the order marked a clear vote of confidence. The veteran slugger has endured stretches of inconsistency throughout the 2026 campaign, yet recent signs of life have been encouraging.

In his last four starts he recorded a hit each time, and even in a limited role Monday he drew a walk and later scored. Placing him behind Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Andy Pages creates a formidable middle of the order that the Dodgers hope can generate sustained pressure against Kansas City’s pitching.

The full batting order reflected several other subtle shifts. Freeman moved into the two-hole, Pages batted third, and Ben Rortvedt formed the battery with Snell. Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, Tommy Edman, and Alex Call rounded out the rest of the lineup in familiar fashion.

These tweaks arrived at a moment when the Dodgers’ offense has shown flashes of brilliance mixed with stretches of quiet, making every run-producing opportunity critical as the season advances deeper into August.

Tucker’s overall numbers paint a picture of a player still searching for his peak form. Through 112 games he owns a .243 batting average and an OPS+ of 102, along with 11 home runs, 54 RBI, 65 runs scored, and 57 walks.

Those figures are respectable but fall short of the elite production many expected when he joined the club. A sustained stretch of contact and power from the cleanup position would provide exactly the boost a contending lineup needs.

Roberts has repeatedly emphasized trust in his veteran core, and Tuesday’s card suggested that trust remains intact. Whether the decision yields immediate results or simply represents another chapter in

Tucker’s gradual recovery, the Dodgers clearly believe the timing is right to give him a prominent role against the Royals.

With Snell on the mound and a reconfigured order behind him, Los Angeles looked to build on Monday’s win and keep its momentum rolling through the series.
