The Denver Nuggets fell short of repeating as NBA Champions, getting eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals. Despite that hiccup, they still have a star-studded duo of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray to build the team around.
Jokic took home his third MVP award this season, remaining one of the most dominant players in the NBA. Jamal Murray has yet to make an All-Star game in his career, but he is an integral part of the team’s success.
The Denver Nuggets know they need him to continue contending in the Western Conference. To ensure that he doesn’t go anywhere, the two sides are working toward a massive contract extension.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Denver Nuggets and Jamal Murraya are working toward a four-year max extension. He would earn $209 million on the deal and the expectation is that he will sign.

Jamal Murray has shown time and time again that he is one of the most clutch postseason performers in the league. This year he had multiple game-winners in the postseason, helping eliminate the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round.
Overall, his postseason production left something to be desired. His shooting woes are a big reason that the Denver Nuggets were eliminated early, as Jokic was left to do all of the heavy lifting on his own.
But, in the 2023-24 regular season, Jamar Murray took his efficiency to a whole new level. He averaged a career-high tying 21.2 points per game, making a career-best 48.1 percent of his shots from the field and 42.5 percent from 3-point range.
His 6.5 assists per game were also a career-high, as he has improved as a playmaker, taking pressure off of the reigning MVP. Still not even in his prime, the Denver Nuggets are going to need more of that if they want to continue competing in a loaded Western Conference.
