The Cleveland Browns face mounting uncertainty as they peer into the horizon. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has struggled to transform the team into a consistent contender, with on-field performance steadily declining over time.

A growing chorus of voices suggests it’s time for the organization to part ways with him and inject fresh leadership to steer the ship.

If Stefanski is shown the door, the immediate puzzle is identifying his successor.

The NFL landscape brims with promising assistants ready to step up to the top job. College ranks also harbor candidates who might align well with Cleveland’s needs.

Yet, one name—Deion Sanders—has sparked little enthusiasm as a viable choice for the Browns. Is there any real chance it happens?

Morgan Moriarty from The Sporting News explored Sanders’ prospects down the line, highlighting him as a potential match for Cleveland.

“This one is another hypothetical, given that the Browns are currently coached by Kevin Stefanski,” Moriarty wrote. “But the coach’s 42-50 overall record in Cleveland, paired with the team’s 2-6 start in 2025 means the job could come open in the coming months. While Sanders has said previously that he doesn’t think he’d be able to coach in today’s NFL, he could reunite with his son Shedeur in the NFL.”

Shedeur Sanders serves as the Browns’ reserve signal-caller right now. Dillon Gabriel has held the starting role for the past four contests, though supporters are eager for Shedeur to claim the top spot.

Should Cleveland bring in Deion as head coach, his son would almost certainly ascend to the starting quarterback position. The duo enjoyed considerable triumphs at the collegiate level, but professional football presents far greater challenges.

Deion boasts a 43-24 lifetime mark as a college head coach. At Colorado, his tally stands at 16-18, with a 3-6 record through this campaign.

In all likelihood, the Browns won’t turn to Sanders for their next sideline boss. He’s not entirely off the table yet, but selecting him to succeed Stefanski would stun the league.

The paths ahead for both the franchise and the Sanders family promise plenty of intrigue.
