The Kansas City Chiefs came into Sunday night’s showdown with the Houston Texans knowing a victory was essentially non-negotiable. Instead, they turned in one of their most lifeless offensive displays of the year and left Arrowhead Stadium with a damaging 20-10 defeat that effectively ended their grip on the AFC West and pushed their postseason chances to the brink.
Now sitting at 6-7 with only four games left, Kansas City’s margin for error has vanished. The Chiefs managed just a single touchdown all evening, surrendered three turnovers, converted a miserable 4 of 14 third-down tries, and came up empty on two of their three fourth-down gambles.
Patrick Mahomes endured one of the roughest nights of his career, going 14-for-33 through the air for only 160 yards, zero touchdowns, and a costly three interceptions. The two-time MVP did lead the team on the ground, scrambling for 59 rushing yards, but it wasn’t nearly enough to offset the passing struggles.
Perhaps the most telling symbol of the evening came from future Hall of Fame tight end Travis Kelce, who was targeted multiple times yet finished with a single reception for eight yards.
After the game, Kelce declined two separate media requests to speak, a move that quickly sparked criticism across social media from fans and observers.
Chiefs WR Rashee Rice left the locker room before reporters entered. Tight end Travis Kelce declined interview requests twice.

“Kelce should of retired,” one fan commented.
Another comment read, “Every time Kelce makes a mistake he declines an interview. Bro needs to man up and answer questions. Mahomes and Jones get up to the mic win, lose, or draw every time.”
“That’s weak. They both had a number of big time drops that were part of the reason they lost and they just don’t take interviews to answer for it,” a third fan wrote.
A fourth fan chimed in, “That’s the example Travis sets on the way out. When you have a bad game, you don’t take any accountability.”
At 36 years old and playing out the final season of his current contract, Kelce is facing a pivotal offseason decision about whether to return for another year or step away from the game. While his numbers have dipped slightly from his record-setting peak, he still ranks as the NFL’s second-most productive tight end in total receiving yards this season, with 60 catches, 727 yards, five touchdowns, and an average of more than 12 yards per reception.
For a Chiefs team that has grown accustomed to late-season surges and playoff runs, Sunday’s flat performance against Houston served as a stark reminder that nothing is guaranteed in a season that has suddenly slipped into dangerous territory.
