The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up their 2025 regular season on a sour note, suffering a narrow loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and ending the year with a 6-11 record. This outcome marked the first time in over a decade that the team failed to qualify for the postseason.

While the overall performance drew attention, the primary focus following the game centered on veteran tight end Travis Kelce, now 36 years old, who has been openly weighing the possibility of stepping away from football during this offseason.

Following a defeat in the previous year’s championship game, Kelce had momentarily entertained thoughts of retirement before opting to return for one more campaign. This time around, the choice seems significantly more difficult as he approaches unrestricted free agency.

A key figure in Kelce’s career, defensive standout Chris Jones, offered his thoughts after the contest regarding the tight end’s potential exit from the game. Jones expressed confidence that his teammate still has more to give.

“I’m not buying it, he’ll be back next year,” Jones said.

When asked if he could promise Kelce would return, he added, “I can’t promise you anything about another man.”

Kelce’s legacy is already secure as one of the premier tight ends ever to play. His excellence was further underscored during the finale when he achieved a remarkable career benchmark, becoming the quickest at his position to surpass 13,000 receiving yards—a feat accomplished by only two others before him.

Although his statistical output has dipped from peak levels, Kelce continued to contribute effectively throughout the year, recording 76 catches for 851 yards and five scores.

Looking ahead, the organization faces a crucial period of transition with multiple personnel decisions looming. As Kelce enters free agency, any continuation in Kansas City would probably involve adjustments to his current deal.

Few expect the longtime Kansas City Chiefs star to don another uniform late in his career, given his deep ties to the franchise.

Regardless of his final choice, Kelce’s impact on the team and the league remains indelible, capping a challenging season with ongoing speculation about what lies next for the future Hall of Famer.
