A lot was made about the foul committed by Chicago Sky’s reserve Chennedy Carter over the weekend against Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. In their first game since the incident, the Sky once agian garnered headlines for fouls. This time, it was Angel Reese at the forefront.
Angel Reese was fined $1,000 for violating the league’s media policy after the game against the Fever. The Chicago Sky were fined $5,000, as the LSU star was not made available to the media after the game.
On Tuesday, Angel Reese racked up some more fines for her actions on the court. With 2:31 remaining in the game against the New York Liberty, she was whistled for her fifth personal foul. Two more whistles came after that, as official Charles Watson assessed two technical fouls on her as well.
Per ESPN, “Lead official Maj Forsberg told reporters after the game that Reese’s technical fouls were for “disrespectfully addressing” the official and then for “waving her hand in dismissal.”
Angel Reese finished the game with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes and was not at the press conference. She is facing $400 in fines, as technicals 1-3 on the season are all worth $200. Nos. 4-6 are a $400 fine, while technical No. 7 and more is $800 and a one-game suspension.
“She got two techs, she said something to the ref,” said Chicago Sky teammate Marina Mabrey, who was on the court when the fouls and technicals were called. “Whatever he felt like was the correct call is what he made. It’s more about composure for us in our young years in the WNBA. You’ve got to get to know refs and how they respond to things.”
Chicago Bulls star point guard Lonzo Ball was in attendance for the game and went on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the game to say he would pay the fine for Angel Reese.

The Chicago Sky are a talented team, but they certainly have some maturing and growing to do on the court. This is two games in a row, both of which they lost, in which fouls are the headlines. Finding composure late in games is something Mabrey said the team needs to improve as well.
“You can’t melt down against them,” Mabrey said of the Sky’s fourth-quarter struggles. “And at the end of the day, we melted down. It’s composure.”
